What oil?

BW recommends 10w-30 regular oil for thair motors. I thought i had it right using 10w-30 synthetic, but recently questioned this. There is no smoke from my motor but have had to add oil. Would the regular oil hold up better in the usual hotter temps down here?I have a 26.5 Kohler (27 basically). What are you running?

Re: What oil?

Hey Raul,
My copperhead (vanguard) says use Shell Rotella 10W-30.
Though for my Kohler I only ran synthetic.

Re: What oil?

Hey! Just changed the oil, went with what i have been using, Mobil 1 synthetic 10w-30! Found a stretched negative lead to motor, and a loose spark plug. Just ran 15 miles and checked oil level and all is good, swapped out the Champion plugs fir Autolites! Saw a couple of bands of birds on big O but sadly most of sw marsh is overgrown and lake is near 15'. Depth near south end is ideal for teal but no open potholes to be found!

Re: What oil?

I run Mobil 1. Rotellla is a great oil also due to a high zink content. I'm kinda old school and say don't change back to a conventional oil after using synthetic.

Re: What oil?

Raul,

For years now I have been running Royal Purple 10W 30.... Never have had an issue.

With its color being purple you are actually able to see how much oil you have on the dipstick when the oil is new....

Re: What oil?

Thanks for the replies- sure feels good to have the motor running right and one can focus on fowling! Needless to say, I carry an extra quart and check level before each run. I use the kohler oil filter, there may be better filters but the kohlers are not cheap and i figure if you use a premium oil, might as well not skimp on the filter either!
