Re: Waterfowl parka

I used to wear camo pants and knee boots when hunting out of my boat, but years ago the technology and price of waders made it such that it just made sense to go with the light breathables for just...

Re: Waterfowl parka

I've not been too impressed with the Redhead brand line of camo clothes. Like you say, they seem way too heavy and just aren't of the same quality you get with Columbia. Even the Cabela's brand has...

Re: Waterfowl parka

I've been using a Columbia Widgeon wading jacket the last several years and really like it. Even though it doesn't have a removable liner it's pretty warm as I usually wear it over my breathable...

Re: Goose decoy

Who knows, you just might be regaled as the duck whisperer and become the envy of everyone around when all the ducks flock to your spread and commit suicide!

Re: Goose decoy

Many years ago I had a supervisor at work who happened to be a big time hunter including ducks. He grew up here in Gainesville and hunted Paynes Prairie before it was acquired by the State in 1970,...

Re: Beretta fix

Excellent news. I recall you mentioned the issue a while back and that you were going to call them and see what recourse you had to get it fixed. I thought it would be in their best interest to...

Re: Oars for 16' jon boat

It was something I came up with after I had a motor problem several years ago that forced me to paddle several miles back to the ramp on Orange Lake. It occurred to me during that hour plus exercise...

Re: Oars for 16' jon boat

I have push poles in both my duck boat and jon boat, which is great in shallow water, but sometimes I'm in water too deep to effectively pole so I've done the single paddle thing in the past. ...

Re: Rechargeable handheld spotlight

Yeah, that Stanley rechargeable is about as good a handheld as I've ever used. It's probably the brightest one I've owned over the years and holds a charge plenty long enough for any duck hunt I've...

Re: Tool box items

Boy, that's a good question. Never had occasion to look for one but I would probably call Gil at Copperhead and get his recommendation on what's the best belt to use and where to get one. I would...

Re: Tool box items

Yep, it has a belt drive, in fact I believe all short tail motors have belt drives of some kind or other. I don't know how easy or hard it is to replace as I've never had to do it. But I've...

Re: Tool box items

Yeah, having easy access to the prop is a big deal. I guess the one complaint I would have with the Copperhead is the fact that it won't swivel a full 90 degrees to either side, maybe 60 degrees...

Re: Tool box items

Perhaps add a stout knife with a sharp blade to cut the reeds and cattails that inevitably wrap around the shaft in front of the prop. No matter what type of cutter blade I've put on my motor those...

Re: Kohler EFI repair

I did the longtail thing for many years, starting with a 6.5 Mudbuddy then a 13 hp on my 14' jon boat. But I transitioned to a 6.5 hp Copperhead on the same boat and realized more speed and ease of...

Re: Kohler EFI repair

Funny you would say that. I hunted from a 17' canoe for a couple of years on one of the local lakes around here prior to the acquisition of a mud motor as that was the only way for me to get on the...

Re: Kohler EFI repair

Sounds like a frustrating problem Raul, I can commiserate to some degree. I was out scouting last year and suddenly had no electric starter. Fortunately it has a rope pull and I was able to get...

Re: Hearing protection

I seldom notice the wind when wearing my muffs. The exception to that is when it's really howling or very gusty and then there's some noise similar to what you occasionally hear with some outside...

Re: Hearing protection

I have to say I like the fact that I can still hear all the morning sounds with my amplified ear muffs. Nothing better than to sit and listen to the sounds of the marsh waking up. The bonus is that...

Re: Hearing protection

A couple of the guys I shoot trap with use both earplugs and muffs for near total hearing protection. They're in their mid 70's so want to save what hearing they have left, although I don't believe...

Re: Hearing protection

Haven't been on here in a while, been practicing my social distancing just about everywhere, including online. I have to confess that I don't always use hearing protection when hunting by myself,...

Re: Browning BPS composite field 10 gauge

Oh man, a tough loss for sure, those Herter's 72's are sweet decoys. Hopefully whoever found them is still shooting ducks over them. I too lost some decoys once, kind of an embarrassing story. ...

Re: Browning BPS composite field 10 gauge

I actually once had a gun failure...sort of...on a 3 day guided trip in Louisiana some 20+ years ago. I neglected to clean my autoloader after the first 2 days thinking it would be fine for the last...

Re: Browning BPS composite field 10 gauge

You're smarter than I am, I generally only take the one autoloader when I hunt. It hasn't failed me yet, at least in the firing department, but it makes sense to bring along a backup gun just in...

Re: Browning BPS composite field 10 gauge

I also use a slip-on pad on my guns, all of them. I decided I need it, mostly for LOP as I have long arms, and I find the additional 1' helps considerably with proper mounting and alignment. But I...

Re: Browning BPS composite field 10 gauge

Well, that makes more sense, 8 lbs was just too light for a 10 gauge gun in my mind. Good that Browning got back to you so soon and acknowledged their error, maybe they are sitting around at home...
