Wood Ducks - SE Florida
3 Attachment(s)
Well I know there are a few Wood Ducks in SE FL, but they are far and few between. We’ve had a Hen and up to five Drakes harassing her the past few weeks.

Before this year, I had only seen one within PBG city limits. I have seen a few and bagged a few in the local WMAs and if you look at STA1 over the years, there have been very few taken.

I may need to put out a few nesting boxes along the canal just to see if they’re local or city ducks now, or if the lack of water this past fall pushed them out of the WMAs?

Thanks for the pics! I saw more woodies in one day of spring turkey hunting (two weeks ago) than I have seen in the southern glades in the last five years. They were slashing into a cypress slough that had enough water I guess- never got the tom turkey but their flights were stupendous. We used to have more Aix sponsa down south...wonder what happened?
